Place your bets on the Durban July with famous bookmaker BetVictor and make the most of their fantastic product!
, so named after their almost legendary chairman and figure-head Victor Chandler, are one of the big players in the betting industry (the world even!) and will be familiar with most horse racing punters. If not, read on!
Here at Durban-July.com, we consider them a 'must have' in any punters' betting armory and if you're not already registered there really is no excuse as we've managed to wangle a tasty bonus for all new customers who register via this site.
Needless to say you won't be disappointed with what they've got to offer and you will find yourself visiting their site over and over again for their competitive prices and frequent free bet offers and promotions. Their TV adverts featuring comedians Paddy McGuinness and more recently Paul Kaye ('Maurice') are based on the idea that "nothing should get in your way" when it comes to gambling, and involve Chandler taking centre-stage. These always make us smile and having tried and tested their service over many years, we can certainly vouch for that notion.
BetVictor was originally founded as William Chandler in 1925, with the bookmaker having roots in the greyhound and horse racing industry (the two popular betting sports in the early part of the 20th century). In 1946, William’s son Victor officially set up a betting operation and it is something which has been carried forward by Victor Junior, who continues to play a leading role in ensuring that BetVictor are among the elite group of bookmakers. Odds and Markets
The online operation has been based in Gibraltar for several years and BetVictor is the bookmaker of choice for many Premier League footballers who look to bet in large amounts. They have also landed many customer accounts from the Far East thanks to their excellent Asian Handicap service.
When it comes to horse racing odds, BetVictor are not adverse to taking a view on certain horses and you will often find that they're top or joint-top price when perusing odds comparison tables. You can usually get a decent bet on too which is a testament to their strong trading team, which is Gibraltar-based, and we've never been knocked back. Their horse racing odds also come with that all-important Best Odds Guaranteed proviso, which frankly every bookmaker should be offering, but don't!
As regards markets, they have everything you need and would expect from an industry-leading bookmaker, including a decent quota of 'extra markets' and 'match bets'. The extras worth mentioning here are 'place only', which can be for 2, 3 or 4 places depending on the number of runners, and 'betting without', which takes out one of the runners, usually the favourite but not always, for betting purposes. OK, a lot of bookmakers offer these sort of markets now but it's still a nice addition to their service.
Where they do fall down perhaps is on their specials, or lack of them. That said, we do like their popular 'Spreads' market, which is not really a spread bet but a fixed odds market (three-way) on the aggregate performance of the favourites at a particular meeting, where every race at the meeting will count towards the total. It gives you an interest for the whole meeting and right down to the last race, usually.
The website itself is pretty easy on the eye, and we think the black / blue / white colour scheme is pretty cool too, which does encourage you to go back, It's also easy to access the day's horse racing, either through the link found in the A-Z menu down the left-hand side of the homepage or under 'Top Sports' above it. That's not always necessary, though, as every time we've visited the site we've found the day's races conveniently located halfway down the homepage.
Once in the horse racing section, it's easy to find the race you want to bet on and transfer your selection (s) to the betslip, which pops up on the top-right of your screen as is the norm. In fact, placing a bet is a very uncomplicated business and there is even the option to top up your balance as you are doing this.
Prefer to take Tote prices? - no problemo. Just click on the 'Tote Betting' graphic on the right-hand side of the racing section and this will open up a whole new page devoted to pool betting. In addition to the UK & Irish racing, we also found three Swedish trotting meetings being covered when we last visited - it's amazing what you can bet on these days!
Live commentaries supplied by At The Races and Racing UK are available through the respective tabs in the horse racing section, so it's full marks all round from us here at RacingTips.
